The family that could have been…
Here’s that fanart I promised you. It’s been something I’ve been meaning to draw for a while but finally got to it just now. It’s been a headcanon of mine that on the night they were killed, Mei Lin and Kazuo had found out that morning that Mei Lin was pregnant again. They were planning to tell the boys before bed that night but they never had the chance. So here’s the “what if” on if they hadn’t died on what Mako and Bolin’s family would be like and if they had still gone into probending.
Now on Bolin’s shoulders you see Nina (but often nicknamed as Nini) and she’s about 9 years old and a nonbender. Then the toothy twins below are Mizu and Riko. They’re 7 and a half (as they like to point out) and Mizu is a firebender while Riko is a nonbender. And there you have it.
I’ll let you guys figure out some of your own headcanons for them.
Looking at this beautiful fanart, I wonder if Bryke really needed to kill Mako and Bolin’s parent, and if this really added value to their characters.
They could have been a working class family, struggling every day to pay the bills and put food in the table. As the oldest, Mako could be still the protective older brother who take care of his younger siblings when his parents are working, and the one who have a part time job to contribute with his family´s economy. He has no time for girls, friends or parties and he would often feel overload with responsibilities. For him, money can’t buy happiness but it can definitely buy freedom.
Bolin could be still naïve, childish, optimistic and adorable person, who tries to cheer up everybody. He would be the cool brother, the one who play all the time with his little sisters, cover their backs when one of them break something by accident.
The brothers could still living in a poor and dangerous neighborhood (Dragon Flats borough?) and get involved with the triads in a moment when their family was desperate for money, to Meilin and Kazuo’s horror.
And since he is a dreamer, Bolin probably was the one who convinced Mako to accept Toza’s offer and join probending. They have the secret dream of be probending stars and bring their family a life of luxury… or at last, buy a pretty and comfortable suburban house for his parent and a couple of satomobiles.
But the most significant part of all this is… THEY WOULD KNOW BOTH SIDES OF EQUALIST MOVEMENT. Bolin, Mako and Mizu are benders, they love it and they would use their talent in the more productive way possible (the brother learned their lesson about the triads) and they will never hurt or intimidate someone with it, so, why should they renounce to their natural skills because someone else don’t have it?. However, they would be very aware of no-benders’s problems. It’s almost impossible for a no-bender to get a good job with a good salary if they don’t have post-secundary education, which is Meilin and Kazuo’s case; or how they are harassed by triads because they are less likely to fight back or they would know the fact that a bender can become a bully. In short, they would understand their motivations but they would not approve their methods
This is a less tragic story than brother’s canon background, but I think it would be work better and Korra would have had a first-hand testimony about no-bender’s oppression
And seriously, the whole thing of “A firebender kill my parent” is getting old.
Bonus: the airbender kids would have new friends :D
This headcanon. I love it. ANOTHER! <333

If you have been treated like a fan and not a friend. Or if you’ve ever approached a well known doll owner to ask a question and you get shot down, don’t give up. The best people you will ever meet in this hobby are the ones who will treat you like a friend regardless of their “fame”. Their the ones really worth knowing.

I couldn’t agree more. Some people won’t answer you at all, then there are the ones who not only answer, but send links, photos’ and additional comments. They are the ones worth talking to!
Am I the only one that can’t see any difference between the dolls of different companies?

I agree. That’s why I go for the ones I think look the cutiest, to hell with “companies” and “brand names” there is nothing wrong with loving a doll that isn’t “popular” cause lets be real I was never the popular one either
I use my Hujoos as a litmus test. If someone looks down on me when I tell them about my ABS-plastic dolls, I don’t bother telling them about my resin bjds. Something tells me we wouldn’t get along.
